Born in Baltimore, Robert’s interest in aviation started at a very early age. During the first 18 years of his life he built scale and flying models of just about “anything with a propeller”, but primarily planes of the 1930s and 40s. After attending the Rhode Island School of Design (R.I.S.D.) in the 1970’s where he earned his B.F.A. in Illustration, Robert worked for various advertising agencies in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In 1998 he made the transition to fine art specializing in oil and watercolor. His paintings are on permanent display at the Plum Island Aerodrome, the WASP WWII Museum in Sweetwater, TX and in private collections of pilots and sailors throughout the country. He has had work in the 2007 and 2009 ASAA juried shows. His painting "Hurricane Scramble" received an Award of Merit at the 2009 CAE SimuFlite "Horizons of Flight" aviation art exhibit and recently received the ASAA Thunderbird Award in 2010. He is currently working with the Collings Foundation in on the “Wings of Freedom” national tour, is writing a novel based on WWII veteran's stories and pursuing his pilot's license. ”It is the excitement and freedom of flight along with the inherent beauty of the aircraft among the clouds that inspires my work. To be able to combine art with flying is truly the best of both worlds."
