Born in 1960 and raised near Zurich-Airport in Switzerland, Frank Schwarz has been fascinated by aviation since his childhood. In 1977 Frank visited Great Britain, where he was exposed to aviation art for the first time at the Royal Air Force Museum in Hendon.
In the following years he often travelled to Great Britain where he met WWII pilots such as Douglas Bader, Johnnie Johnson, and many others.
In 1995 he started to sell aviation art prints. Customers began to ask for more prints with Swiss military and commercial aircraft subjects, but there were no such Swissrelated prints. For that reason Frank bought a starter kit for oil painting in 2005 and tried to paint airplanes himself. His first oil painting (a pair of F/A-18 Hornets) was sold some days later. ...more
As a self-educated, non-professional aviation artist, Frank developed a „photo-realistic“ style of painting military and commercial aircraft. He paints in oil and also enjoys creating pencil drawings.
